Vehicle Tracking GPS

What Is Vehicle Tracking GPS?

To understand what this is, you must need to know what GPS is. GPS stands for global positioning system and was first intended for the military to use but in the early 1980s the government decided to let civilians use it as well. It consists of 24 satellites that were put into orbit by the Department of Defense and is a great use for vehicle tracking GPS.

The vehicle tracking GPS can be used in any kind of weather conditions and in anywhere in the world. It can be used 24 hours a day because it runs off of the satellites that are in orbit and these satellites are always moving. The vehicle tracking GPS are devices that are used in vehicles in order to locate exactly where the vehicle is.

These vehicle tracking GPS devices use the technology of the satellites by using a control segment that constantly monitors the GPS constellation. This constellation uploads the initial information to the satellites for accuracy. The vehicle tracking GPS receiver collects information that the satellites have from the information that was given to them. Then, the vehicle tracking GPS receiver will determine the current location, velocity, and time of the vehicle. Then, the vehicle tracking GPS will display this information on the GPS device screen.

There are sometimes vehicle tracking GPS errors that might occur with the device and these include Ionosphere and Troposphere delays which have to do with the signal moving through the atmosphere to the satellites, orbital errors, receiver clock errors, number of satellites visible errors, satellite geometry errors, and signal multipath errors. These errors do not happen on a regular basis and can be easily fixed by fixing your location and getting out of the way of obstructions.

When purchasing a vehicle tracking GPS receiver, there are factors that need to be considered. They are the product level, power source, portability, mapping capability, mounts, ease of use, antenna configuration, price, and the type of software. The person who is going to purchase needs to research all of these factors in order to not purchase the wrong vehicle tracking GPS receiver that they may not need. You may spend a lot of money on a receiver that has the capabilities to track 300 trucks when you are an individual that just wants to know where your teenage son is on any given night.

Along with having a vehicle tracking GPS device, common sense tells us that we must know the basics also such as knowing how to use a map, having a simple compass and having knowledge of navigation.
